Hey there, gang!  It's Wednesday, and you know what that means!  Time for a weekly brainstorming!

*Oh, and everybody should have gotten a match of some kind.  I think there was one person I made a mentor who wanted to do both.  If you're new, leave me a comment and I'll link you to the app so we can find you a beta or someone to beta for you.  Okay?  On with the show!*

I'm sitting here watching Julia Child host an omelette party.  When I was little, I didn't watch Julia Child.  My grandmother and I, God love her she still has that Betty Crocker cookbook, were more of Galloping Gourmet people.  What was the difference?  He was British and silly.  Julia Child takes a far more progressive view of cooking than he did.

I'm also sitting here wondering what type of person would host an omelette supper party, set up buffet style and decorated with ceramic chickens, no less.  Then I thought about the type of parties I've hosted.  The ones that has always alluded me is the mystery dinner party.  I've done porkchop parties, popcorn parties, zero fondue parties (thank God), and a host of random get-togethers and barbecues.

That got me thinking, if it was Julia's destiny to tell people about omelette parties...what would my destiny party be?

I think what I would like to do is what they call a traveling party.  See, you get five families together and each family does an entree and you travel if you live on the same block or you meet at a central locale otherwise.  Its great because the dishes usually work together even without the planning.  While I like cookie parties, its more a limited venue than I give it credit for.

So how about you?  Whats your idea of a perfect party?

Hey there folks!  Are we all having a good Saturday?  Yes?  Well, I hope so.

I'm going to spend tomorrow afternoon looking over the applications I have received (thanks so much!) and then I will be pming everybody that works.  I think we have an uneven number, so you may not have a match yet but ideally everyone will at some point.  If needs be, I'll step in and be in a beta or a mentee and I don't really mind that.

I am also declaring Saturday a recommendation day!  What does that mean?  Well, once a week, I'll leave a post like this open.  You can feel free to comment with good stories or positive criticisms.  Each week, I'll choose a couple and display them as the next week's rec post intro!

So, I guess I'll start with a couple of mine:

First, we have a comment that I received on an original piece of small fiction I wrote during the summer of the weddings.  Some of you at the Flame might remember the story, but I remember a comment I received thus:

"I'm not sure if I have the words to describe how this made me feel. I read it over and over again, and every single time I read it through I felt a different emotion. I feel like you gave only enough information to make the reader understand the raw emotions you were feeling as you wrote the letter and yet somehow it was enough. It broke my heart that he married Jackie, but when you said "I love you." I just started crying so much that the screen was blurry for the last little bit there. This was amazing and almost too real!"
-heatheronahill  (in response to the marriage letter).

And then how about a fanfiction story?

I wrote the Demons of Gracin Falls as a story for a livejournal halloween challenge.  I worked with three prompts and my favorite CSI pairing Nick Stokes and Greg Sanders.  The result was an AU venue featuring demons, a prairie town, and a very sweet story, just a touch between pg-13 and r rating.

So...I guess this is Rec saturday and yeah...hope you enjoy yourself!  Feel free to come and go as ye please!  Just make sure you keep sodas off the couch so they don't stain!  =)

Hello gang and welcome to the first brainstorming session of brigits_nook!  *trumpets blare in the background*

I did get side-tracked by a group interview I have tomorrow, but it is still technically Wednesday, which is when I want to do these.  The premise here is to use the brainstormer as an ice breaker, a writers block breaker, or someplace to just get a little wacky.  Not that I would know anything about getting wacky, right?

Anyways, for this first week, I was thinking about the mini contest over at brigits_flame .  It is a contest for past winners and moderators and the all-stars of the Flame.  But I see the term all-star differently.  I think all-star can apply to anyone in any way which they choose.  For instance:

I am an all-star because I can finish a molten chocolate cake in under five minutes.

I am an all-star because when I started my baseball card collection for a second time, I found the exact same Pirates set that my mom threw out all those years ago.

I am an all-star because I can quote word for word, the movie "White Christmas".

I am an all-star because I still use, and love, a cd walkman (although it does have an mp3 player button for mp3 cds).

And I am an all-star because I got my roommate hooked on Rent, Buffy, Angel and now hopefully Glee.  And he got me hooked on Scrubs.

With all that being said, I have to wonder:

WHAT MAKES YOU AN ALL-STAR?

*I will be contacting everyone on Saturday if they have a mentor/mentee match btw.  I appreciate your patience but I just wanna give it another day or two to see if we have any more new people willing to stop in.

Note from your beloved mod: Feel free to answer any questions which you wish to and leave any which you wish to leave blank. You'll notice this is posted twice. Make sure you check the subject line for either being a mentor or a mentee. I will post reminders throughout the week. Also, feel free to pm me if you think of a better question that might work. And yes, if the first match up doesn't go well, there will be a follow-up post and poll in the future!

Hello dear friends!  This is the first post to let you know that this community is up and running!  Before we begin, a little note about myself and about the expectations that I have for this, plus what I've heard from those who have supported me in the creation of this little endeavor:

My name is tigerstriped86 and this is my baby.  I write for tamingthemuse and am a frequent visitor/writer of the community known as brigits_flame , a place for original fiction.  While I am affiliated, that is no reflection on this community.  While they are both fine places to write, my hope is that this will become a place to stand on its own.

As for the community itself, the first few months are going to be very experimental.  The theory behind this community is thus: this should be a place to find a peer editor or beta reader or just a new writing friend.  If you are new to the world of writing or feel like competitions such as the flame or nano are just out of your reach because of the people or perceived popularity contests then I want this to be a place where you can find comfort in the fact that we are here for you and are more than happy to extend branches of friendship until you find a point where you are ready to debut.  My internet parties are famous for my cookies, just so you know.

Over the next week, I will be crafting two new entries for the community.  The first will be for mentees and the second will be for mentors.  I'll draw up a little diagram of info you can fill out and then we'll try to match people up to those who suit their interests.  If you need someone to beta or mentor for a particular fandom, for example, or you feel that you don't want comma criticism, we'll find someone to help you out.  It'll be as personal as you like and as much criticism as you care for.

Of course, since I work within the parameters of two prompt communities, there will be bi-weekly brainstorming sessions where we can go crazy with the ideas (think Apples to Apples) and then there will also be a debut section once a week.  If you feel comfortable, it's a good chance to give your new work the light of day.  This community is not about pressure though and if you just want to hang or recommend a good read, thats fine too.

So, I hope this will be the start of something beautiful for all of us.  I've asked a good friend from the flame to co-moderate with me in this experiment and I'll let them introduce themselves when the time comes!
